What You Need to Know

Many of your general questions and billing information will be addressed on our main FAQ and Billing page. The information below addresses unique regulations related to our Orange County location.

We are an out-of-network (OON) provider. Insurance benefits vary, but you may be responsible for the entire cost of treatment.
If you are unsure of your OON benefits please contact our office so that we can verify your benefits.
The typical recommended initial course of treatment is between 4-6 treatment sessions.
Every appointment is 1 hour one-on-one with a physical therapist, so that you receive the best possible care and expedite your recovery.

Under California State law, you may receive direct physical therapy treatment for a period of up to 45 calendar days or 12 visits, whichever occurs first. If treatment is necessary past these parameters, we will need to obtain a prescription from your physician or equivalent medical professional. We are happy to assist in obtaining the required information, and prefer to work closely and collaboratively with the rest of your healthcare team from the outset. For this reason, we will ask you for your referring provider’s information during the intake process.

In California, patients have the right to seek treatment from a licensed physical therapist without a prescription or referral from a physician. Treatment can continue for a period of up to 45 calendar days or 12 visits, whichever occurs first, after which time the patient must obtain a prescription from a Medical Doctor (or other equivalent professional). This means that a patient can come to IPA Physio OC for an evaluation/assessment, and begin a course of treatment, without a doctor’s referral. For reimbursement, some insurance plans require a medical doctor’s prescription.

No. IPA Physio OC is not contracted with Worker’s Compensation and we do not accept liens.

No. In California, physical therapists are currently prohibited from performing dry needling, unless they hold an acupuncture license. At IPA Physio OC, we work collaboratively with acupuncturists and can provide referral recommendations upon request.

We do not use ART specifically at IPA Physio OC. However, there are some similarities between Functional Manual Therapy and ART. If you have been told that you would benefit from ART, or have benefited from ART in the past, FMT will help take you to the next level.
